The Wedding

For Nic and Mandie

12-31-2004

The day has come
That changes everything
"Should I run?"
No turning back
"Just go."
Girls pretty
Hair perfect
Pullin' up the dress
Never wear it again
Their happy for her,
wishing it was them.
Mom dries eyes
She remembers
All the pain
For them
"Was it worth it?"
"It is."
One special lady
Never this pretty
Laughing and crying
Her dream coming true
"Will he love me?"
"Forever?"
Handsome men
All muscle and bone
In their own minds
Fresh haircuts
Ties too tight
Tired of standing
Tired of waiting
For their love
Dad cries too
He recalls,
"What I should have done..."
He's proud of them
"They'll be OK."
One special guy
Rough and ready
Scared to death
"She loves me,"
but why?"
"Can I be enough?"
Preacher man
He's done a few
"Will it last?"
Just one more
"Or is it?"
Give 'em to God.
Lots of people
Family and friends
Excited and happy
Slidin' in close to theirs
Some pushing away
"I wish our love,
was this new."
One old couple
Twenty five years
Holding hands
So familiar
They know,
the secret.
